APTAPB Research // ROZ Concepts & Bibliography
Key Acronyms and Terminology
Main Pay Zone (MPZ): That interval above the oil/water contact where the mobile fluid phase is oil or gas
Residual Oil Zone (ROZ): That interval below the oil/water contact wherein the mobile fluid phase is water but a significant percentage of the pore space is occupied by immobile oil
Transition Zone (TZ): That interval wherein both oil and water are mobile in the reservoir under normal producing conditions. The ROZ is often defined to include that zone but some prefer to call that zone out as separate from the ROZ below it.
CO2 EOR: One of the enhanced oil recovery (EOR) methods that utilizes carbon dioxide (CO2) as an injectant to change the properties of the oil to make it more mobile in the reservoir.
